FAQ

Wandering Monster is a company that specializes in online and in-person tabletop role-playing games. But what does that mean? That means that we guide groups of players on grand adventures through collaborative storytelling and improvisation. We work to craft unique encounters for players and their characters to experience, all based on the decisions they make.

TTRPG stands for Tabletop Role-Playing Games. A well-known example would be Dungeons and Dragons, a trademark of Wizards of the Coast. All that a player needs for most TTRPG are a piece of paper, a pencil, and some dice, everything else utilizes their imagination!

Roleplaying games encourage imagination, teamwork, and trust. They are goal-oriented and modular. Interested in starting a business in an elven city? Go for it! Excited to take on a mythic quest to save a troubled realm? Be that hero! The endless opportunities that are presented to a player in a TTRPG have tremendous value. Players can experience a variety of situations that they would never have in the everyday.

TTRPG also foster empathy and understanding, as well as build confidence by overcoming adversity or facing a character’s fears. It can strengthen a player's understanding of right and wrong, cause and effect, anger, and forgiveness. It can also create hilarious or epic memorable moments that your group will remember years later!

Participants will need a good internet connection, and the ability to video conference for each online session is recommended. We utilize maps and other images when setting a scene so being able to see our presentation is extremely beneficial, though not required. We suggest each player have their own screen, so they can reference their own character sheet without bouncing between multiple tabs and windows.

If you are concerned about technology limitations, please reach out to us and we will work to accommodate your specific needs.

Each session runs for two hours, and each block usually includes four sessions. We are able to run private custom games that can be tailored to run shorter or longer, either for the length of a session, number of total sessions, or both. You can sign up for a custom game here

When you sign up for a new game, before that game starts you are encouraged to sign up for a consultation to create a character. These consultations sessions range about an hour and are designed to answer questions a new player might have. When you register for the first time, you are given a link to the campaign hosted by D&D Beyond. You create a free account using D&D Beyond, then use that to access your online character sheet. You will get personal insight and assistance when creating your character from the GM who is running the adventure and can help you with the specific choices to make when creating your character. You also will gain information regarding the details of the adventure and the makeup of the party, should you join a game mid-adventure.

It is recommended to discuss this topic with the GM (Game Master) during the consultation session. The character might need to undergo a few alterations in order to fit into the storyline or match the level of the rest of the party, so you and the GM should be in agreement beforehand.

Operating on a first-come, first-served basis, these sessions are open to anyone who falls within the age criteria for that class. New players can join pre-existing campaigns and make new friends from across the country. There is a consistent plot that runs from month to month, but it is flexible enough that players join, or leave, depending on registration. This is a great option for kids who are looking to join a game, learn how to play, and make some new friends.

Private sessions have the same group of players from month to month. They could be a group of friends who have been playing together for years, or a new group of friends who just needed Wandering Monster to facilitate the story. These sessions are password-protected so no new members can sign up without pre-existing approval. This is a great option for an established group of players who all want to adventure together.

Private Sessions have 2 tiers.

Tier 1: Campaigns run on a regular weekly schedule and cost the same as a Public Session. $120/4 sessions ($15/hr)

Tier 2: Campaigns have a more fluid and customized schedule (bi-weekly, specific times and days throughout the month, etc) and require more coordination on our part to keep everyone playing. These are $200/4 sessions ($25/hr)

In these workshops we draw back the curtain and focus on the role of the Game Master. Topics include world-building, dungeon design, character development and other aspects that make a great adventure. This is a great option for people who want to learn more about collaborative storytelling, and the rules of RPGs. We encourage players to expand their understanding of game mechanics to provide endless possibilities in creative play.

Oftentimes the role of the GM is equated to being a referee, but to us, this is not the whole story. While they are arbiters of the rules, GM’s also are the architects of the world the players explore.

One-Shot Adventure Parties are special events where we play 1 session of a TTRPG. The adventure's story is started and concluded all in 1 day, rather than an ongoing campaign which can be found in our Public and Private Sessions. One-Shot Adventures are great for special events like birthdays, team building or other celebrations. Players are able to keep their characters after the One-Shot Adventures in case they wish to expand into a larger campaign. Pricing for One-Shot Adventures depends on the size of the group and the duration of play. Sign up today.
